My Piano

I have a beautiful piano that my dad bought for me when I was in high school.  After high school, I moved to Arizona and the piano was moved to my mom’s house.  It was supposed to be a temporary arrangement; I was always planning to move the piano into my own home once I had one. As it turned out, it took 11 years for me to move into a place where I could keep a piano.  (I’ve been living in small, upper-floor apartments for a long time.)  But finally, this weekend, we moved my piano into our home!

I have to say that I’ve felt extremely guilty about the piano for a long time.  I never played it, mostly because it was really out of tune and I felt bad about letting it go several years without a tuning.  I also felt embarrassed about earning a bachelor’s degree in music and not being able to play anything.  (I’m not one of those musicians who just sits down and plays by ear).

For some reason, all of my piano-guilt has disappeared now that it’s here in my house.  I’ve been having a lot of fun with it even though it’s horribly out of tune and I can’t play like I used to.  I’ve been playing a lot, and it’s nice to be back to doing something that I used to really love.  I’ve been working on a Mazurka by Debussy.  Dave’s probably sick of hearing it, but he’s too nice to complain about it!

  1. That’s so cool that you finally got your piano! You’re a great pianist and will definitely get better now that you can play at home. Hey, when we get home I want to hear Dave play a beautiful piece. We can have a concert! How fun! Maybe we can even get Rob to play a song.
